This was a scene captured in an unknown location in Africa during the world’s smallpox immunization campaign, the success of which put an end to this dreaded disease. In this particular scene, a mother was holding her young child, as a field technician was sterilizing the baby’s right shoulder region, while a second technician held the pressurized jet injector, called a Ped-O-Jet®, which he’d use to administer the smallpox vaccine.
