This image shows the hands of a Centers for Disease Control (CDC) laboratorian beneath a laminar flow hood, as they were manipulating a calibrated pipette inside a test tube, in the process of diluting amniotic fluid with fetal calf serum during the preparation of an amniotic fluid cell culture. This was one of a number of images used to provide instruction on how to create an amniotic fluid cell culture, in order to perform a chromosomal analysis, and to record the genetic effects produced by the chromosomes in the form of syndromes, a process known as cytogenetics.
