This 2012 photograph depicted Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) veterinarian, Nadia F. Gallardo-Romero, DVM, wearing the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), while inside the laboratory environment, as she held an unknown species of prairie dog from the genus, Cynomys, which was captured during a field study. The doctor’s personal protective equipment (PPE) consisted of a disposable protective breathing mask, an elastic head cover, latex gloves, and a white laboratory gown, all of which protected exposed skin and clothing from possible laboratory environmental contaminants.
