This image depicts a single engine propeller plane, as it was in the process of dispersing a cloud of larvicidal chemical, over a tree lined body of water, in an attempt to control the population of blackflies of the genus, Simulium. The intent was to control the spread of the parasitic disease, onchocerciasis, for which blackflies are a vector. Onchocerciasis is also known as river blindness.
