This image depicts a close intraoral view of a patients mouth, highlighting the palatal mucosa, revealing the presence of marked erythema, which had been caused by the bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoeae. If left untreated N. gonorrhoeae can enter the blood, thereby, spreading throughout the body. As was shown here, a fully systemic dissemination may manifest itself as skin, or mucosal lesions throughout the body.
