This photomicrograph details the histopathology exhibited by a strand of favic hair, extracted from the scalp of a patient with a form of tinea capitis known as tinea favosa, caused by the dermatophytic fungal organism, Trichophyton schoenleinii. In this case, you will note that the infective pathogen had invaded the hair shaft, leading to what is referred to an endothrix.
