Caption:
This female patient presented with a cutaneous lesion involving her vagina and perineum, that was diagnosed as a case of granuloma inguinale, or Donovanosis, the sexually transmitted disease caused by the bacterium, Klebsiella granulomatis, formerly known as Calymmatobacterium granulomatis, and even earlier Donovania granulomatis. This lesion was 2-months in duration. The causative organism is difficult to culture, and diagnosis requires visualization of dark-staining Donovan bodies on tissue crush preparation from a biopsy.
