Caption:
This photomicrograph of a Grocott's methenamine silver (GMS)-stained specimen, revealed some of the cytoarchitectural pathology found in a lung tissue sample extracted from a monkey, ill with pulmonary pneumocystosis. Of importance, you will note the presence of Pneumocystis jirovecii, formerly Pneumocystis carinii, fungal organisms in the alveolar spaces.
