This photomicrograph of a hematoxylin-eosin-stained (H&E) human lung tissue specimen revealed the presence of an inflammatory exudate within the intra-alveolar spaces in response to Pneumocystis jirovecii, formerly Pneumocystis carinii, fungal organisms.
