Description:This is one in a series of twenty-four images (PHIL 16125 - 16148) captured at a memorial ceremony exhibit entitled, “Honoring Dr. Stephen B. Thacker”. In this particular photograph, Dr. Thacker was presenting what appears to have been a mug to Editor-in-Chief of MMWR, Ronald Moolenaar, M.D., M.P.H. Both were dressed in their service uniforms, as they posed for this picture. The location, date, and type of event are not known.
Stephen B. Thacker, MD, MSc, a retired Assistant Surgeon General in the U.S. Public Health Service, most recently the Director of the Office of Surveillance, Epidemiology, and Laboratory Services (OSELS), served with distinction in key CDC positions, including Deputy Director (Acting), during a career that spanned more than 36 years. He was the recipient of two of the U.S. Public Health Service's highest individual honors, the Distinguished Service Medal and the Surgeon General's Medal. Throughout his public service, he provided essential support to the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) series of publications.

The photographic series was compiled March, 2013. The CDC Public Health Library and Information Center hosted an exhibit honoring Dr. Thacker’s life and contributions to the CDC. The exhibit remained on display from early February, through the EIS Conference in late April of 2013.
