Under a magnification of 970X, this photomicrograph revealed some of the ultrastructural morphology exhibited by the dermatophytic fungal organism, Trichophyton rubrum, strain A-600. Highlighted, were the large, atypically swollen forms of the multicellular macroconidia, or the fungal spores of this organism, also called conidia. Referred to as mitospores, these reproductive structures are born out of the process of mitosis, and are therefore, haploid when they reach maturity.
