Under a magnification of 970X, this photomicrograph revealed some of the ultrastructural morphology exhibited by the dermatophytic fungal organism, Trichophyton rubrum, strain A-600. Of importance, were the large, atypically swollen, multicellular macroconidia. Referred to as mitospores, for these reproductive structures are born out of the process of mitosis, and are therefore, haploid when they reach maturity.
