This photomicrograph revealed some of the ultrastructural morphology exhibited by the dermatophytic fungal organism, Trichophyton rubrum. This T. rubrum specimen was of the granular variety. Of importance, were the large, atypically swollen forms of multicellular macroconidia. Known as mitospores, these reproductive structures are born out of the process of mitosis, and are therefore, haploid when they reach maturity.
