This image was captured in 1969 during an Indonesian plague investigation, believed to have occurred in Java. The vessel fumigation training was being offered to the Indonesian health authorities during the plague epidemic. The photograph depicted a number of Indonesian health inspectors, who were in the process of participating in a sea vessel fumigation training exercise, while aboard a ship. Each was wearing a filtered breathing apparatus, which made use of a carbon canister attached to each man’s belt. In the foreground, one man wore a pair of thick, green colored rubber gloves, and it was he, who directly handled what appeared to be a metal can, which held an unknown substance.
