Caption:
This photomicrograph of a trichrome-stained, polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)-fixed stool specimen, revealed the presence of a narrow, diamond-shaped Charcot-Leyden crystal, which stained a dark wine-red color. Charcot-Leyden crystals result from the breakdown of eosinophils, and maybe found in the feces and sputum of people with tissue-invading parasitic infections, or various allergic reactions.
