Under a low magnification of 40X, this hematoxylin & eosin-stained (H&E) tissue sample revealed the presence of a chronic granulomatous inflammatory granule in a case of botryomycosis. Though bacterial in its etiology, given the cytoarchitectural appearance of this granule, botryomycosis was originally thought to have a fungal etiology, hence the name.
