This photomicrograph of a Grocott-Gömöri’s (or Gömöri) methenamine silver (GMS)-stained lung tissue sample, revealed some of the exhibited histopathology caused by a case of pulmonary pneumocystosis. Of importance, you will note the presence of Pneumocystis jirovecii, formerly Pneumocystis carinii, fungal organisms in the alveolar spaces.
