Description:From 1972, this image depicted activities at an illegal landfill, where the improper dumping of waste materials was taking place, polluting the surrounding air and groundwater.
This image stresses the importance of environmental regulations governing what, and where waste materials may be dumped. With no such regulations, wastes can then be dumped indiscriminately, contaminating ground water, which supplies the drinking water of nearby zones of human habitation. Gases expelled from the decaying dumped materials can also negatively impact the air breathed by these same inhabitants.
