This patient presented to a clinical setting with an active cutaneous lesion on the dorsum of the left hand, which was determined to be tuberculoid leprosy, or Hansen’s disease, which is the paucibacillary form of the disease, and is caused by the bacterium, Mycobacterium leprae. The tuberculoid form of leprosy is characterized by one or more solitary cutaneous lesions, which exhibit hypopigmentation, and anesthesia, due to the involvement of the peripheral nerves supplying the region, whereupon, the body’s own immune system attacks these nerves.
