Description:This individual presented to a clinical setting exhibiting a dry, flakey rash accompanied with areas of inflammation, and generalized swelling, which had involved the skin of the penis and scrotum. The condition was diagnosed as a case of seborrheic dermatitis.
Seborrheic dermatitis occurs in area of the body where the skin's sebaceous glands experience an over-production of sebum, and subsequently gives rise to an infection and inflammation. Other causes include fungal involvement by a form of the yeast, Malassezia, having a genetic predisposition to this condition, hormonal changes disrupting the skin’s normal physiology, generalized stress, illness, fatigue, and sleep deprivation.
