Description:This photomicrograph revealed the presence of numbers of Gram-negative, Haemophilus ducreyi bacteria that were arranged in parallel rows, known as a "railroad track" arrangement. This specimen was harvested from a chancroid lesion.
H. ducreyi causes chancroid, a highly contagious sexually transmitted disease that begins with the formation of painful open sores on the genitals.
