This is a portrait of Dr. Kamarul Huda, the Sub-Divisional Medical Officer of Health for Chittagong District in Bangladesh. Dr. Huda was integral in the fight to eradicate smallpox from his country, and helped to achieve the designation made by the World Health Organization (WHO) of worldwide smallpox eradication. During his smallpox eradication efforts, Dr. Huda passed away in a boating accident, when traveling by way of overloaded country boat over open waters to the island of Sandwip, in the Bay of Bengal.
