Description:Under a magnification of 1125x, this Gomori-stained tissue sample reveals the presence of Prototheca sp. algal organisms.
Prototheca spp. are achlorophyllic algal organisms. Protothecosis in humans due to P. wickerhamii and P. zopfii usually presents itself as cutaneous infections with systemic dissemination occurring in immunocompromised individuals.
