This image shows Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) scientist Carol Bolden, examining microscopic slides highlighting the morphology exhibited by the fungal organism, Exserohilum rostratum, which you're able to see on her computer screen, during a 2012, multistate fungal meningitis outbreak investigation. During this 2012 outbreak, the CDC and FDA confirmed the presence of E. rostratum in unopened medication vials of preservative-free methylprednisolone acetate.
