Description:This unknown specie of hamster was infected with two pathologic entities, Leishmaniasis brasiliensis, and an unknown specie of ear mite from the genus Notoedres.
Both of these parasitic pathogens, the mites and L. brasiliensis cause a chronic granulomatous inflammatory response in the affected cutaneous tissues. The mites cause what is known as, notoedric mange, infesting the skin of the hamster’s left ear, manifesting as scabby nodules due to the nymphal staged mites burrowing into the skin.
