Caption:
This image depicted a close view of a lesion found on the skin of a common bottlenose dolphin, Tursiops truncatus, found off the coast of Florida, United States, which had been determined to be a case of lobomycosis, caused by the fungal organism, Lacazia loboi, formerly Loboa loboi. Note the roughened, irregular texture, and shape of the lesion, when compared to the animal’s normal, smooth, gray colored skin.
