Caption:
This image depicts a beautifully-colored, adult parrot known as a scarlet macaw, or Aracanga, Ara macao, which can be found in its native habitat of the tropics of the Americas. These birds range in size from that of a pigeon, to three feet in length. Though care for these birds takes diligence on behalf of the owner, they make wonderful pets, with potential lifespans of 40 to 80 years. Care should be taken with all pet birds in order to avoid acquiring possible diseases they may carry. Infection is acquired by inhaling dried secretions from infected birds.
