This image depicts the right side of a young girl’s face, who was ill with what was determined to be an Echovirus type-9 infection. Note the characteristic macular skin rash that had become evident, which had spread over her right cheek and neck. Echoviruses comprise one of five serotypes, which make up the genus Enterovirus, and are associated with illnesses including aseptic meningitis, nonspecific rashes, encephalitis, and myositis.
