This illustration depicts a dorsal view of a Culex nigripalpus mosquito. Cx. nigripalpus is the primary vector of St. Louis encephalitis (SLE) virus in Florida. Under experimental conditions, C. nigripalpus has also been shown to be capable of transmitting the West Nile virus (WNV).
