Caption:
Under a magnification of 128X, this photomicrograph depicts an egg from the human whipworm, Trichuris trichiura, the causal agent of trichuriasis. The ingestion of embryonated, T. trichiura eggs, leads to the whipworm infestation. These infections are more frequent among children, in areas with tropical weather, and poor sanitation practices.
