This image depicts three infant mice that had succumbed to the pathogenic effects of the mouse hepatitis coronavirus (MHV), which was formerly known as the lethal intestinal virus of infant mice (LIVIM). This virus causes lethal enteritis, and upon pathologic investigation, the intestinal tracts of these deceased mice showed marked flaccidity, i.e., an atonicity, and contained watery, yellowish material. Of note, was the fact that only the intestines showed any histopathologic changes. The infant mice exhibited a lack of a normal, healthy pink coloration.
