These two photomicrographs depict how the outcome of the fluorescent antibody (FA) test is affected by the presence, or absence of Francisella tularensis bacteria in a mouse liver tissue specimen. The image at left depict a negative FA test in a mouse tissue specimen stained with a control conjugate, while the liver tissue specimen on the right, stained with the same control conjugate, gave rise to a positive FA test, due to the presence of F. tularensis bacteria.
