Description:This Gram-stained photomicrograph revealed the presence of numerous beta-hemolytic, Gram-negative, Actinobacillus suis, coccobacillus bacteria.
A. suis is often present in the tonsils and upper respiratory tract of swine, and is therefore, a cause of infection on these animals, and only rarely, a cause of human infection, which is usually attributed to traumatic inoculation.
