Taken during the 1940s, or early 1950s, this historic photograph depicts a biplane releasing mosquito insecticide dust over a potential mosquito breeding ground along the Wolf River Backwater in Memphis, Tennessee, and was part of a 1980 exhibit at a meeting on behalf of the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, held in Atlanta, Georgia. This and its accompanying images gave a historical glimpse of malaria eradication in the United States, and was taken from files of the Malaria Control in War Areas (MCWA), and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).
