Description:This image depicts an unknown specie of rabbit, Sylvilagus spp., camouflaged in its rocky environment.
Sylvilagus spp., along with the thirteen-lined ground squirrel, S. tridecemlineatus (see PHIL 14308), the golden mantle ground squirrel, Spermophilus lateralis (see PHIL 14309), chipmunks, Tamias spp. (see PHIL 14310), spotted ground squirrels, S. spilosoma, (see PHIL 14312), and antelope ground squirrels, Ammospermophilus leucurus, (see PHIL 14313, on right), have all been found to be involved in various plague epizootics.
