This 1969 image was captured in Niger, West Africa during the Smallpox Eradication and Measles Control Program efforts in that country, and depicts a female villager receiving her smallpox and measles vaccinations. A public health field technician was administering these vaccines using a jet injector compressed air gun, and using the woman’s left upper arm as one of the injection sites.
