This is a photomicrograph of a Giemsa stained lung tissue specimen, extracted from a patient with a condition known as botryomycosis, a chronic inflammatory reaction in response to a bacterial infection. Of note, is the granulomatous inflammatory sulfur granule in the center of this pulmonary nodule, surrounded by a macrophage infiltrate.
