This is a photomicrograph of a tissue specimen extracted from a foot lesion from a patient with a condition known as botryomycosis, a chronic inflammatory reaction in response to a bacterial infection. Note the two sulfur granules staining classically in a bright eosinophilic manner, appearing as crystalline structures that take on a characteristic starburst pattern.
