This historic image, depicts a laboratory technician performing an unknown test, using a culture plate and a hand-held pipette. Note that she was not mouth pipetting this reagent, but using a vacuum bulb. Laboratory protocols have evolved over the years, and adherence to proper practices is a must, if one is to maintain a safe laboratory environment. Modern day minimal requirements include the implementation of personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves, goggles, and a facemask.
