From the “Illustrated Manual for the Recognition and Diagnosis of Certain Animal Diseases”, published in 1982, by the Mexico-United States Commission for the Prevention of Foot and Mouth Disease, this image depicts a close intraoral view of a sheep’s mouth revealing the presence of intense congestion and swelling of the animal’s lips and gums (gingivae), as well as sloughing of the oral mucosa on the dental pad, found to be due to a bluetongue (BT) infection.
