This image depicts a spectacled flying fox, Pteropus conspicullatus, as it was feeding on the nectar of an unidentified grouping of flowers. P. conspicullatus is a member of the order Chiroptera, and due to their size, the subfamily Megachiroptera, though not all the megabat members are giants, ranging in size from 2.4 to 16-inches in length. The natural reservoir for Hendra virus is thought to be flying foxes, found in Australia. The natural reservoir for Nipah virus is still under investigation, but preliminary data suggest that bats of the genus, Pteropus, are also the reservoirs for Nipah virus in Malaysia.
