Using immunohistochemical (IHC) technique, this photomicrograph of a sample of tissue from an unknown animal’s lung, revealed histopathologic changes in the trachea and bronchioles brought on by a Nipah virus infection. Infection with Nipah virus has been associated with an encephalitis, characterized by fever and drowsiness and more serious central nervous system disease, such as coma, seizures, and inability to maintain breathing.
