Description:This image depicts the mucosal surface of the left interior cheek of a 67-year old female patient, which was covered by an interlacing pattern of white, slightly-raised lines. A biopsy revealed that this lesion was due to a condition known as lichen planus.
Lichen planus is a skin disease characterized by an eruption of wide flat papules covered by a horny glazed film, marked by intense itching, and as was the case here, often accompanied by lesions on the oral mucosa.
