This image depicts the tongue of a patient, which was covered by a bluish-white, thick, patchy film, that was diagnosed as oral lichen planus, a skin disease characterized by an eruption of wide flat papules covered by a horny glazed film, marked by intense itching. This case involved the oral mucosal lining.
