This 1964 image depicted a Tehrani man, who was being treated for what was diagnosed as pemphigus vulgaris. He presented with a painful, long-standing intraoral lesions of 3-years duration. In this particular view, the lesions can be seen on the surface of his tongue. See PHIL 12570, for another view depicting a lesion on the patient’s lower gums and lip, as well as 12571, for a view of the interior of his left cheek. The patient also had painful lesions in the perineal region. The intraoral lesions were covered with a grayish-white membrane, which when peeled away, left a fiery red sore. These were preceded by mucosal eruptions, as were lesions elsewhere on his body.
