This 1964 image depicted a close view of the lower lip and gums of a Tehrani man, who was being treated for what was diagnosed as pemphigus vulgaris. He presented with a painful, long-standing intraoral lesions of 3-years duration. In this particular view, the lesions can be seen on the surface of his lower gums and lip. See PHIL 12571 and 12572, for other views depicting lesions on the patient’s inner left cheek and tongue, respectively. The patient also had painful lesions in the perineal region. The intraoral lesions were covered with a grayish-white membrane, which when peeled away, left a fiery red sore. These were preceded by mucosal eruptions, as were lesions elsewhere on his body.
