This 1975 photograph captured a sailboat moving gracefully along Bangladesh’s Meghna River, the widest river in the country, and one of the widest in the World. This was one of many water craft that plied the waterways, and which were, and still are a major means of transport throughout this costal country.

PHIL images 1191, 3258, 5664, and 12290 through 12367, were supplied by Dr. Michael Schwartz, and capture the epidemiologic-related activities undertaken by healthcare providers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), World Health Organization (WHO), and local Bangladeshi healthcare workers, during their successful attempt to eradicate smallpox.
