This October 1975 photograph, depicted a view from a window in the Hotel Bonanee, where one could see a food stall below. During the smallpox eradication efforts of the 1970s, the Hotel Bonanee became the local Smallpox Office and Residence, in Patuakhali Town, located in the Patuakhali District, in the country of Bangladesh. PHIL images 1191, 3258, 5664, and 12290 through 12367, were supplied by Dr. Michael Schwartz, and capture the epidemiologic-related activities undertaken by healthcare providers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), World Health Organization (WHO), and local Bangladeshi healthcare workers, during their successful attempt to eradicate smallpox.
