Description:This historic 1965 photograph depicted a laboratory technician as she was performing a spectrophotometric analysis using a Gilford spectrophotometer.
A spectrophotometer measures the intensity of light as a function of its spectral constituents, including visible, near-ultraviolet, and near-infrared wavelengths. In a modern day laboratory setting, a spectrophotometer still occupies an important niche in the realm of biochemistry and clinical chemistry.
