This historic 1964 photograph, depicted laboratorian, Nancy Langford, a staff member in the Communicable Disease Center’s (CDC) Tissue Culture Unit, in its Laboratory Branch. Ms. Langford was measuring out quantities of essential amino acids, using an automatic balance, in order to prepare culture media. Modern day protocols now call for the laboratorian executing such tasks, to wear additional personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety goggles, and a facemask.
